Sixth through eighth grade will have Savvas myView curriculum available to them as a resource in social studies this year. However, because I teach to the Illinois Learning Standards, I believe there are a wealth of resources available for learning and a variety of ways to teach those standards to my students. Each year is designed to build off of what students learned in the previous year.
Sixth grade will be studying the foundations of civilization and how it contributes to world history.
Seventh and eighth grade will both be studying American history. Seventh grade will begin learning about early settlements of the United States through the Civil War. Eighth grade will continue to build off of this by studying later history, beginning with Reconstruction of the Civil War.
Throughout our learning, students will participate in a variety of activities, as well as larger scale projects to showcase their learning.
